Resembling Rajiv in more ways than one, Rahul has made it a point to be a leaning tower for his mother. He has imbibed much from the long letters that he used to get from his father while he was studying abroad.

Like Rajiv, he has refused to be overawed by pedigree and has no problems living the life of a common man. Not known to throw his weight around, Rahul’s persona is unfolding immaculately before the nation.

Known to have been nursing a shy nature, Rahul is now mixing up with people pretty much. He has been touring states and addressing the woes of the poor people with a great deal of commitment. His tours in the states of Orissa and Karnataka recently saw the same amount of zeal and excitement amongst people as has been seen in UP. Rahul’s appointment as a General Secretary of the Congress has energized the party’s youth in a great measure and a lot of hope has emerged amongst the cadre. Rahul has a great vision. He is determined to put into practice means and measures that shall help alleviate the miseries of the people. As a student of Development Economics, he understands the nuances rather well.

Rahul is actually restless about the welfare of the poor. He is restlessly working on measures that will see a major transformation, very soon.

As for Priyanka, in tune with her mother’s humanitarian projects, she has been shoulder-to-shoulder in conceptualising and implementing of a large number of projects that were close to her father’s heart. It is solely due to her persistent determination to not make her efforts a public jamboree that not much newspaper space has been taken by her undetected drive for the uplift of the dispossessed.

Her brand of charisma made a date with popular imagination when, as a political novice, she held forth against a BJP stalwart in Sushma Swaraj during the 1998 General election in Bellary. She not only managed the stage show for her mother, there, but was also largely responsible for wresting the seat from Swaraj’s able grip. She showed that the public’s faith in her mere presence was as potent as the faith Rajiv got wherever, whenever.

Besides her mother, Priyanka shares a deep bond with her elder brother Rahul who may have spent a bulk of his adult life abroad, but has been etched on the Indian psyche ever since he lit the pyre of his father.
